IDEAS FOR CHURCH or PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT:
Our bottles are usually handed out on Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (about the third Sunday in January). Alpha Women’s Center will supply the bottles – usually one per family. We will also provide a bulletin insert to explain how to fill the bottles, and a handout of current information about the Center to take with the bottles. Usually a date, about a month out, is designated to have the bottles turned in again. The church can process the change and write us a check, or we can process the money. Many churches will process the money for us, send us a check with any personal checks that may have been made out to us, and keep the bottles to use the next year. We will give each person a tax receipt who issues us a check.
When the mothers bring in their new babies, we give them a basket of new items, (outfits, rattles, bottles, receiving blankets, onesies, socks, shampoos, lotions, sleepers, etc.) and a new quilt. Some classes and/or churches have had Christmas banquets and each person or couple brings a new baby gift and it is given to be placed in our new baby baskets.
Some groups are making quilts or blankets as a Ladies Night Out project. They are taught how to make them and then they donate them for our closet.
Some groups or churches designate a certain period of time where diapers and wipes are collected. This has been done by teens and adults.
These smaller items can be collected by Awana or children’s Sunday School groups. These would be placed in the new baby baskets.
We have contacted garage sales to ask if they will donate their items that they do not sell at the end of the sale. We give a tax receipt for these donations as we would for any other donation. They have to determine the value. We just state that there was so many boxes, etc. donated. We accept anything for babies up to 2 years old – except car seats.
Groups could do bake sales, car washes or garage sales. Any dollar amounts are welcome. We do appreciate monthly or quarterly pledges that help in the budget planning. Every donor receives a tax receipt. We will soon have a link on this website where you can make donations online.
We appreciate clean items that do not have to be re-washed.
