You don’t know how to explain the knot of worry sitting in your chest. You don’t know what you will do if your fear comes true. You don’t know how your life might change. All you know is that you need a pregnancy test.

You probably have a lot of questions, and we want to help. Below, we will answer the most common questions about the need for a free pregnancy test.

1. What is the best place for a free pregnancy test?

You could always do an at-home test, but those cost money. Alpha Women’s Center offers a free pregnancy test at our Ankeny and Des Moines locations.

2. How soon can I take a pregnancy test?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, it’s best to wait until after you miss your period to take a pregnancy test. Pregnancy tests are 99% accurate when taken at the right time.

3. Could I get a false positive?

Yes, it is possible, but very uncommon. A false positive usually happens when you test too early. As mentioned above, it’s better to wait until after you miss your monthly period to use a pregnancy test.

4. Will I need to schedule an appointment?

Yes, unless you buy an at-home testing kit, most clinics, including Alpha Women’s Center, ask you to make an appointment ahead of time. To book an appointment, follow the link below and click on the tab that says, “Request an Appointment”. Alpha Women’s Center.

5. Can I receive an ultrasound as well?

Yes, you can most definitely request an ultrasound if you visit Alpha Women’s Center! Even if you had a positive pregnancy test at home, we will need to confirm the pregnancy at the center since ultrasounds are medical procedures. All ultrasounds at Alpha Women’s Center are performed by licensed professionals.

6. What if the test is positive?

If you take the test at Alpha Women’s Center, our staff is here to sit and listen to any worries you might have. We understand that there can be a lot of pressure from family, your partner, or even yourself about what to do. We want to answer your questions and talk through your options.
