Parenting Classes

Nobody is born knowing how to do this. Our free parenting classes help you build skills and confidence as you learn about pregnancy, birth, childcare, and the years that follow. Classes are offered at both our Des Moines and our Ankeny locations, at no cost to you.

What the classes cover

Class topics span the whole arc of early parenting: what is happening during each stage of pregnancy, what to expect during labor and delivery, newborn care and feeding, safe sleep, child development, budgeting, and healthy relationships.

You can take the classes that fit your situation rather than working through a fixed curriculum from beginning to end.

How your classes work

Parenting classes are available to families already enrolled in our resource program. If you haven't joined yet, we can get you started with a quick in-person intake appointment at either our Des Moines or Ankeny location — after that, classes are yours to take whenever you're ready.

All of our parenting classes are delivered through BrightCourse, our streaming class platform featuring hundreds of expert-led, evidence-based classes that are easy to digest — available in both English and Spanish. You can take classes one-on-one in person with a member of our team, or from home through a secure link sent to your phone, whichever fits your life best. Either way, completing classes earns you points toward your next visit to the resource program.

Learn at your own pace

There is no test, and no judgment about what you do or do not already know. Whether this is your first child or your fourth, you are welcome.

Classes are taught by people who want you to leave feeling more capable, not more criticized. Ask as many questions as you want — that is what the time is for.

Earn while you learn

As a resource program participant, you already receive free weekly Grace Points to shop for what you need. Taking classes is completely optional, but it's a great way to earn additional Progress Points — so the time you invest comes back to you in diapers, wipes, clothing, and other supplies your family needs.

Free and open to parents in Des Moines and Ankeny

Our classes are free, and you do not need insurance or a referral to join. You will be served without regard to age, race, income, nationality, religious affiliation, disability, or other arbitrary circumstances.

Because classes involve more time than a resource program visit alone, we encourage you to request an appointment ahead of time. Walk-ins are welcome, but we can't always guarantee same-day availability. If you're already part of our program, you can call either center to have classes sent directly to your phone for at-home learning.

To get started or ask any questions, call our Des Moines center at 515-285-5700 or our Ankeny center at 515-965-7885, or request an appointment below.
