Ultrasounds

A free ultrasound is the next step after a positive pregnancy test. At Alpha Women's Center, a licensed medical professional performs a limited OB ultrasound at no cost to you, at either our Des Moines or our Ankeny location.

Why an ultrasound matters

A positive pregnancy test tells you that you are pregnant. It does not tell you everything you need to know. An ultrasound answers three questions a test cannot: whether the pregnancy is developing, how far along you are, and whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus.

Those answers matter no matter what you are considering, because your options and your timeline both depend on them. Knowing how many weeks along you are is information you deserve to have before you make any decision.

What to expect at your appointment

Ultrasounds are scheduled after your pregnancy test appointment, so your first visit with us is usually the shorter one. When you come in for your ultrasound, you will meet with a member of our medical team who will explain the process before anything begins.

Most appointments take about 30 minutes. You are welcome to ask as many questions as you would like, and you are free to stop at any point. You will leave with a clearer picture of your pregnancy and with information about the support available to you.

Free, confidential, and no insurance required

There is no cost and no billing. You do not need insurance, and you do not need a referral. What you share with our team stays confidential.

You will be served without regard to age, race, income, nationality, religious affiliation, disability, or other arbitrary circumstances, and you will be treated with dignity, kindness, and compassion.
