Can Stress Be The Reason I Missed My Period?

Your period is late, and now you’re wondering why. You’ve had a lot going on lately, and the missed period is just one more thing to worry about. You might be wondering if stress is the reason. If this is how you feel, you aren’t alone. Below, we’ll cover the reasons why you might have missed your last period.

How Stress Affects Your Body

Stress can affect your body in many different ways. It can give you headaches. It can change your appetite. You may even have trouble sleeping or feel tired all the time. It can also affect your monthly cycle.

Even if stress has caused you to miss your period before, it’s still good to check with a pregnancy test. You can find one at almost any store, but you can find a free pregnancy test at Alpha Women’s Center. We are located in Ankeny and Des Moines. Follow this link to schedule an appointment today.

Other Reasons Your Period Could Be Late

Even if you are stressed, there could be other reasons why you didn’t have your last period. Changes in weight, exercise routines or workouts, or pregnancy could all make your period late.

Stress affects everyone differently. A short period of stress may not change your cycle much, but ongoing stress is more likely to make your period late or cause you to miss one.

How to Know for Sure

If you are pregnant, you may notice other symptoms. These symptoms include sore breasts, tiredness, nausea and morning sickness (which can happen any time of the day), and needing to use the bathroom more often.

However, symptoms alone can’t tell you if you’re pregnant. You’ll want to start with a pregnancy test, then schedule an ultrasound to confirm a positive test. Alpha Women’s Center offers a free pregnancy test, as well as a free, limited OB ultrasound. To learn how to do an at-home test, check out our previous blog.
