It’s incredible how generous people are in supporting us all year round! If that’s you – if you are one of our funders or donors – we’d like to say thank you for your kindness towards the young women and moms of the Des Moines metro area.
If you are someone thinking about ways to help Alpha Women’s Center – by either donating money or items – we would sincerely appreciate it! We are 100% dependent on donor support – we receive no government funding. The services we provide are literal lifelines to some women and their families in the community. Des Moines and Ankeny have such young and growing populations so our need for your help will never change!
Check out our factsheet to help you understand who we serve and what we do to meet a real need in the Des Moines metro area.
We know that many people and groups in our community (such as churches, AWANA and Scout groups) go out of their way to assemble their donations, oftentimes handmaking items and creating baby baskets stuffed with goodies. If that’s you – we’d like to say thank you for helping needy moms and babies in our community to feel loved and valued.
We also understand that oftentimes the donations we receive are personal items that have meant a lot to you. Please know that your donations will go to families who have less and greatly appreciate your coming alongside them like this.
We’ve put together a list of the kinds of items we redistribute. We strive to make sure everything we give is in good condition – so please donate new or gently used items only. Also, check out our notice board for current items most needed. If you wish, we will give you a tax receipt for your donation.
If you’re considering supporting a worthwhile cause that will directly benefit families in central Iowa— look no further! We’re a Christian ministry impacting lives right here in the Des Moines metro area.
We are grateful for any financial donation big or small, and we especially appreciate regular giving in the form of monthly or quarterly pledges. This allows for more careful planning of our budget (and your budget!). You can quickly, conveniently and safely make an online donation or set up a recurring payment through your financial institution.
Please feel free to email our Director Jeanie Thomas if you have any other questions about financial giving. You can find Jeanie’s details on our Meet the team page.

Are you part of a church or group that would like to do something extra special together for a good cause? We have some tried and tested ideas for you to consider. If any of these appeal to you or if you have other ideas – we’d love to hear them and facilitate your efforts if we can. Please Contact us so we can help.
Last year we distributed 23,016 diapers – we can never have too many! Why not organize a diaper and wipe drive? We always need the larger sizes, especially sizes 4 to 6, but all sizes – newborn to 6 are welcome. One of the advantages of this type of drive is that kids and teenagers can get involved too!
Babies love cozy blankets (and moms, too!) and they can be fun to make. Do you know a group of people who could get together for a quilt/blanket making class? Perhaps turn it into a Ladies Night Out project? We would LOVE to receive your handmade efforts to pass on some love and warmth to babies in need.
BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG
Usually, bottles are filled with milk but we have a fun use for them – collecting donations! We can supply your church with bottles for each church family. We can provide bulletin inserts to explain how to fill the bottles with cash, coins, or checks.
We usually distribute bottles to interested churches on Sanctity of Life Sunday (in January) or Mother’s Day. The bottles are collected one month later and are usually counted/processed by the church and the total sum forwarded to us as a check.
Why not make Christmas extra special this year by organizing a Christmas banquet, and ask each guest to bring a new small baby item/gift? Then as part of your celebration dinner – guests can assemble the items into new baby baskets. What a joy these baskets have been in the past for moms in our community!
Items your guests could bring include outfits, sleepers, blankets, onesies, bottles, pacifiers, rattles, baby shampoo. Enjoy getting creative!
CHRISTMAS BANQUET & BABY BASKETS
“For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face”.
We believe that our gracious and sovereign God hears our prayers and answers them. Thank you for bringing our prayer requests before our Father in heaven!
Pray for our Director, Jeanie Thomas as she speaks at churches, schools, and other events.
Pray for new volunteers to be faithful and teachable.
Pray for hearts to be tender to the truth of God’s word.
Pray for God to continue to bring in the clients, volunteers, and funding that we need in order to serve as He directs.
We rely very heavily on help from volunteers to serve the women of the Des Moines metro area on behalf of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God has established our ministry to help meet the practical, emotional, and spiritual needs of women and young moms in our community. We want to share God’s supreme love and mercy with every woman we meet!
If you love the Lord Jesus, if you have a caring heart, and if you’d like to volunteer your time to something that will directly impact the lives of people in our community – Alpha Women’s Center could be right for you! We have prepared a Volunteers section to help you in your decision making. We also ask people interested in volunteering to read our Statement of Faith (pdf document) and Code of conduct page, so you are aware and agree at the outset with our spiritual beliefs and moral stance on key issues of 21st Century life.
